Liska’s Role in Jewish Spiritual Heritage

Liska, established as a hub of Jewish cultural and religious life in the 1800s, holds an important place in history. Thousands of pilgrims come annually to pay homage to Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also revered as Hershele Lisker. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. In the 1800s, about 3,000 Jews lived in Liska, forming a rich and vibrant community. Liska’s influence extends beyond its borders, reaching nearby towns like Kerestir and impacting Jewish life across Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.

Liska’s heritage preservation is maintained by the combined support of local and international groups.
